FUCK THE TORIES. That’s what this hat says. I made it because I feel helpless, but as I was knitting it I thought how about doing it as a fundraiser? I’m going to build a ‘free food’ garden by the side of our lane, where I will grow vegetables and anyone can help themselves - locals, visitors, whoever. Initially it’ll be an area of c. 1.50-3m, though there is a bit of room to expand. It’s not a community garden as such - it doesn’t need others to grow the food, it’s just a resource (though help is always welcome). I’d like to raise money to buy some wood from our neighbours to build easily-accessibly, clearly delineated beds and makes signs, so it’s easy for folks to see what’s what. I’d also like to buy some compost and other materials, and if I sell enough hats I’d love to kit out the shed next to that bed a bit better, and possibly put a small poly tunnel in. The hats cost me c. £5 in materials and postage, but anything above that would go towards the project. It takes me 3-4 hours to knit a hat, so I’m afraid they won’t be with you in time for Christmas - but I could always send you a nice voucher if you wanted to give this to someone. I’m thinking of selling them for a minimum donation of £15 - though of course larger donations very welcome. You get to choose the colours. Anyone interested?
We’ve voted, and what better outfits than the #unitysweater and a kilt. @seamusmacpherson wow his multicultural Christmas jumper, also a great choice. Our polling station is the primary school in the village - is very quiet as its a small village. I’m very anxious about it all - not locally as much as nationally. I’ve been sleeping barely these past days, and I keep having nightmares about an outright Tory majority and less than 40 SNP seats. Very grateful that I’m one off the immigrants considered worthy enough to vote - I got citizenship in 2015.
I am grateful for every bit of colour in this dark season, and particularly these beautiful flowers. They’re kale flowers - Red Russian ones - and the plant has been growing since the spring. It still is - it keeps producing leaves even though it is flowering and developing seeds. I can’t bear to remove it just yet - perhaps it’ll survive the winter, we’ll see.
I spent quite a bit of time yesterday soaking up the sun. We don’t get much of it just now - it barely makes it above our hill, and only for a few hours, so it’s very welcome whenever it does appear.
I’m not sure why Penny is looking so spooked here - her stocking is up, her catmas collar is in her stocking ready for catmas day, and her list of wishes has been conveyed to Santacat. It’s out eighth catmas together, and we both hope Santacat is going to be kind to us this year.
Freshly harvested beetroot joy. Will become risotto, alongside leek and kale from the garden!
